Meelmore Lodge, Newcastle
52 Trassey Road
Tel: 028 4372 5949
With the fortunate location of Meelmore Lodge just a short walk from the higher Mournes, the facilities available at our campsite are ideal for family holidays or anyone wanting to holiday beside the mountains also those taking part in The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
The main campsite consists of over two acres of land and has been used in the past for the Mourne Mountain Marathon in 2002.
The campsite has running water facilities and also has the advantage of being situated right at the foot of the Mourne Mountains; just a moments walk from the Trassey Track.
We would like to stress that our campsite is used by families and we would encourage other campers to be courteous of this. We do allow small groups and couples but prefer not to have large groups on the site. Meelmore Lodge retains the right to remove anyone from the grounds, due to complaints arising from their behaviour, by other campers and/or staff.
We have new toilets and showers, a family shower room and laundry facilities.
We also offer a new cafe & bistro called "Hare's Gap Cafe & Bistro" for those of you not wanting to cook.
Local Attractions include:
- Silent Valley
- Tollymore Forest Park
- Castlewellan Forest Park
The campsite unfortunately has no electrical link up facilities suitable for caravans, however, they are pleased to accommodate those who wish to stay in their caravans.
From Newcastle main street turn right at the lights opposite the promenade. Keeping to the left lane, turn left at the roundabout on to the main Bryansford-Newcastle road. Keep to this road for about 2 to 3 miles until you come to a junction and then turn left unto the Hilltown Road. Travel along this road going past the village shop, for about one and a half miles until you reach the Tollymore Mountain Centre. Travel past the Centre and ignore the Tullyree Road. Trassey Road is the next road to the left—don’t drive too fast or you might miss it. A sign is posted at the end of this road. On the Trassey road travel down the hill to a hump-back bridge. Once over the hump-back bridge travel on up the hill going past the existing car park and the Trassey Track (remember Meelmore Lodge has its own private mountain access). Continue down and up the hill and at the top you will come across several signs signalling Meelmore Lodge.
Have you caravan or motorhome professionally serviced, repaired, converted or maintained by local experts with high quality workmanship.
